W, C, WPF?

hat is the common thread between a locksmith, a car detailing service, painters
and mechanics? Some would say these are men’s jobs…wrong, sure men do
these jobs, so do women. Others might say these are service jobs…right, but
not what I am looking for. Oh yeah, these are jobs that require providers to get licenses
or specialized education for. Hmm, not really, most of these can be learned by watching
others do them and then practice. Still missing the common thread.
Here’s one common thread, these providers are dependent on doing their trade prop-
erly, professionally, fair-priced and effectively. Without satisfied customers these pro-
viders are shortly out of business. This may even apply to parents and kids, unless the
kids to their chores properly at the right time they will have to be repeated until they
get it right.
These service providers also are in the business because they do things that some
people or customers “W, C, WPF.” Welcome to the world of choice, opportunity and self-satisfaction.
Alright already, what’s “W, C, WPF”? They are the questions that when answered provide a ticket to the future
when looking for opportunities.
What is it that people “WON’T” do? What is it that people “CAN’T” do? What is it that people
“WILL PAY FOR”?
Ask yourself these questions. And do
them. Your solution doesn’t have to be
all 3 or even 2. 1 is plenty.
Here are a few examples. Some peo-
ple just won’t clean their house, but will
pay someone to do it. Some won’t do
gardening and someone will do it for
them and make a lot of money. Some
people can’t or just will pay for some-
one to sweep and clean their pools. OK,
you may see what I am saying, there’s
some good money in these.
The average “pool-sweep”
in San Diego makes over
$80,000 in a year. Not bad!
It’s not just individuals,
this may be what compa-
nies do, ask what W, C,
WFP people do and do it.
Look at McDonald’s, look at a car dealership, or a nurse at a hospital. All are doing some of the
W’s, C’s, WPF’s. Here in Lompoc you don’t have to look to far for a localized example consider-
ing the approval to grow and harvest cannabis. Most people won’t grow it themselves (too much
hassle), some can’t grow it (they may live in an apartment), some simply will pay for it. In all
three situations, someone or a company will do it themselves and make cannabis available to you
or others that want it for their use.
What do you do at work that fits “W, C, WPF”? What could you do? What could kids or teens
or young adults do? Look around, lots of opportunities. What W, C, WPF opportunities are there
to serve senior citizens, families, companies? Look around and there usually is an opportunity
Here’s a perfect example from one of my classes I taught at SDSU, San Diego State University.
Right after San Diego mandated that residents had to use the 96 gallon trash cans in the future. I
mentioned how big and heavy they could be for some people and said there must be people that
won’t, can’t or will pay for someone to take the trash out in the big container in the morning of
pick up day and then return it in the evening. Now you might not mind to do it, you can do it,
you won’t pay for someone to take out your trash. But, Ryan, one of my students did, saw this as
an opportunity, made up some flyers, stood outside an Albertson’s in Point Loma in San Diego,
and in less than 8 days had 370 customers that he would service and did it for $5.00 a week. Now
that’s over $8,000 per month. He did this on only 2 days a week since that’s the number of trash
pick-up routes that he could or wanted to service.
Remember, the 370 were thrilled that someone would do this task for them. No dirt. No injuries.
No forgetting to put cans out. Only satisfied customers. Mind you, this kind of service could eas-
ily be franchised or duplicated elsewhere, Ryan didn’t though. He did though, sell his business 13
months later for $85,000.
What will you do that others won’t do, can’t do, will pay for? Do it!
