he Lompoc-Vandenberg Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is hosting its annual

Speech Trek competition, open to all high school aged students in Lompoc, Santa Ynez, Buellton and Solvang, on

Friday, January 31, 2020.

The timely topic for the Speech Trek contest: “Are men and women truly equal today, or are the Suffragettes of 1920

still suffering in 2020?”

The contest is open to high school aged students of all genders and there is no cost to the student to participate. Ap-

plications are available from AAUW Speech Trek coordinator, Ms. Pam Buchanan who can be reached at pamelajoybu-

The contest will be held in the Council Chambers, Lompoc City Hall, 100 Civic Center Plaza. Prizes will be awarded

to the top 3 speeches by an impressive panel of judges from government, industry and the military.

The video of the top speech from this area will go on to

be entered in the AAUW state level competition. Two years

ago, Speech Trek winner from Lompoc High School, Erin

McCallon, went on to win fourth place in the state competi-

tion.

AAUW has been empowering women as individuals and as a commu-

Second Language (ESL), High School Diploma, Computer

Basics, Intro to Careers, Workplace Readiness Skills and
